Cosmetic or base oils are used in cosmetic products, or on their own can be a perfect substitute for a cream – by spreading a few drops of a base oil on moistened skin, a cream is "created" directly on the face or body. Oil extracts, or phytols, were among the first cosmetic products invented by man. These are base oils in which plants were soaked and their beneficial, aromatic phytonutrients dissolved in the oil. They are used just like pure, base oils.
