Our Sustainability Policy

Out of respect for the Plant, the Earth, the Human Being and Tradition - that's how and why the KVAPŲ NAMAI was born. A sensitive, respectful and responsible approach to ecosystems, biodiversity, environmental and human health is our essence, our DNA.

In the beginning it was Smell. The scents of plants - their essential oils, enchanted by their beauty and power. And a sense of oneness, of an innate connection with Plants, life and the Earth.

Then, in 2007, we started by creating and educating a community of responsible and critical scent-lovers: we organised and continue to organise workshops, public lectures and seminars, where we showcase the various uses of plant essential oils, from wellness and aromatherapy to household use. We introduce the primordial natural substances (oils, clays, salts, loams) and their millennia-old traditions of use, which are a perfect substitute for today's polluting cosmetics; we teach the secrets of natural cosmetics and perfumery; how to make healthy products at home that are healthy for you and the environment - just like we make fresh food; and how to recognise and avoid polluting substances in cosmetics, e.g. How to avoid and avoid preservatives and phthalates in cosmetics. And that by doing so, we can all contribute to more sustainable consumption, less waste, less pollution, and the preservation of nature and traditions.

In 2010, we also set up our own production and research laboratory, where we implement ideas and recipes inspired by plants and ancient herbalism, producing simple but valuable 100% natural cosmetics and aromatherapy products, using only biodegradable ingredients that are not hazardous to humans and the Earth.

From the very beginning until today, we have adhered to the following principles:

We do not use synthetic ingredients in our production, but only natural ingredients - hydrolats, oils, essential oils, plant extracts, waxes and clays. (The exception is polysorbate, a synthetic solvent for essential oils, which we use only in our Picnic Spray and Scented Mist Sprays (four products in total))
We apply environmentally friendly production principles at all stages of production, using only mechanical and physical methods, in accordance with the principles of organic production and organic cosmetics certification.
We do not use palm oil and its derivatives.
We do not use raw extracts from endangered wild plants such as rosewood, white sandalwood, nardus.
We do not release products containing endocrine disruptors such as phthalates, bisphenols and pesticides onto the market or into the environment; we are the only company in Lithuania to test every batch for phthalates, bisphenols and pesticides in our own laboratory(see here for the dangers of phthalates and how to avoid them).

Sustainable packaging policy:

We do not use plastic packaging, only glass, aluminium and paper (the only exceptions are lipstick tubes and PET shampoo bottles).
Glass packaging that can be easily washed is recovered from the market and reused (would you like to return jars to us? click here).
We produce almost no recyclable packaging.
We reuse materials for parcel packaging - boxes, fillers, etc.
We offer zero waste packaging - some shampoos, soaps, incense, resins.

We organise all our activities, including our office and shops, in a way that is sustainable and minimises environmental damage:

We support the Lithuanian economy, buying goods and services from Lithuanian companies if the quality is right
we don't produce cosmetic samples in disposable packaging because it creates a lot of waste;
we prefer furniture, objects and office supplies made from natural materials (wood, stone, paper, glass);
Avoid plastic tools, utensils, production and office equipment;
print only on recycled paper for printed materials, promotional materials and labels;
we use recycled paper in the office;
we participate in the Green Dot ("Der Grüne Punkt ") programme, which manages packaging waste.
