Ho wood essential oil is a more sustainable and much more affordable alternative to the oil of endangered precious rosewood trees, matching it in both fragrance and quality.

Camphor trees (Cinnamomum camphora) growing in Southeast Asia are locally known as Ho trees. The so-called Ho wood essential oil is distilled from their wood chips. Despite what the name might suggest, it does not smell of camphor or cinnamon – its aroma is soft, floral, with a green woody undertone. Due to its high linalool content, its fragrance is very close to that of rosewood essential oil.

Rosewood trees are endangered – they are extensively cut down in the Amazon rainforest for their hard and fragrant wood. Therefore, Ho wood and Ho leaf essential oils are a more sustainable and responsible choice that can replace oil from endangered rosewood trees.

Interestingly, the same trees growing in Madagascar produce different compounds – cineole (eucalyptol) and small amounts of camphor – which gives their aroma a character closer to eucalyptus. Locally, these trees are called ravintsara, and ravintsara essential oil is distilled from their leaves.

These essential oils are not registered as medicinal or biocidal products.
