Copaiba balsam essential oil Copaifera langsdorffii
bot. Copaifera langsdorffii, angl. Copaiba, Copaiba balsam; pranc. Baume de Copahu
The essential oil is obtained from the fragrant oleoresins of copal/copaiba wood, known as copal, copaiba balm. It is an exudate produced in the secretory ducts of the trunk of the tree, which begins to ooze out of the trunk of the tree when it is damaged. This is how the tree protects itself from parasites, pathogens and herbivores.
It has a rich, sustainable woody, ambery, balsamic odour.
It has been used in ethnomedicine by the tribes of the Amazon Basin since ancient times.
