Essential oil from the bark or leaves of Ceylon cinnamon, bot. Cinnamomum verum J.Presl syn. Cinnamomum zeylanicum
Ceylon cinnamon (Cinnamomum verum) essential oil is one of the strongest, most warming and stimulating aromatherapy oils. It is characterised by an intense, sweet, pungent and deeply warming woody-spicy aroma. It is used in extremely low concentrations, as the scent is very strong, overpowering and can irritate the skin and respiratory tract; just one drop is sufficient in a diffuser.
The essential oil is extracted by steam distillation or CO₂ extraction, and two varieties are available on the market:
- Cinnamon bark oil: more luxurious, with a stronger and sweeter aroma; its composition is dominated by cinnamaldehyde
- Cinnamon leaf oil: milder, with a scent reminiscent of cloves, as its composition is dominated by eugenol
- Genuine essential oil — we verify the authenticity of every batch ourselves in our own laboratory using GC–MS.
