Star anis (Latin: Illicium verum, English: Chinese star-anise; French: badiane). It is an herbaceous and medicinal plant (tree) common in eastern and south-eastern Asia, with highly ornamental flowers, star-like fruits with seeds. They are used to extract the essential oil.
This essential oil is obtained by CO2 extraction. The essential oil has a concentration of 86-96 %, 75-95 % of which is anethole, which gives it its characteristic aroma and flavour. Anethole relaxes spasms in gastrointestinal and respiratory tract; tonic
