Lavandin essential oil Lavandula x hybrida
Lavandins are a hybrid variety of lavender, i.e. the result of a cross between two lavenders.
Lavandula angustifolia, or true lavender, and Lavandula latifolia, or bell lavender, have a tendency to hybridise in the zone where they grow side by side. The cross between the two produces lavender: wild lavender in the wild, and the artificial cross between the two species of lavender produces the cultivated lavender, Lavandula x hybrida, which is often confused with true lavender, and it is difficult for inexperienced noses in particular to distinguish between the essential oils of true lavender and those of lavandin.
Lavandin has a stronger, more pungent scent, with more camphor, which is 'inherited' from the camphorated bell lavender.
