Description

Bergamot essential oil has an incredibly charming, fresh, citrus scent that is loved by almost everyone. Our beloved essential oil from bergamot grown in the Calabria region (southern Italy) has a clear and special scent. By the way, even if you don't smell bergamot oil, you can smell it in the popular Earl Gray tea – that's its hallmark!

Bergamot essential oil is obtained by pressing from the peel of the fruit. We offer traditional bergamot oil with or without bergapten, suitable for use in cosmetics and perfumery.

Bergamot-free bergapten oil – an essential oil obtained by pressing, from which bergapten has been removed, a substance which causes photosensitization of the skin (increased sensitivity of the skin to sunlight, which results in pigment spots at the site of contact with the essential oil); therefore, this oil can be used safely on the skin even on a sunny day.

The fruits of the bergamot tree (Citrus × aurantium ssp. Bergamia) have been used in Italian folk medicine for hundreds of years, and today as herbal medicines and food supplements. Due to their bitter taste, they are not eaten daily like other citrus fruits, but are widely used in Italy as a condiment in the gourmet cuisine.

The main active ingredients of bergamot essential oil are monoterpenol linalool, neroli, geraniol and ester linalyl acetate, terpene limonene.

Properties of Bergamot essential oil:

brings the inner world of man into balance;
it reduces feelings of danger, excessive negativity and sadness;
tonic – used to relieve emotional stress and indecisiveness; elevates mood, improves memory and attention;
bergamot essential oil is calming, invigorating, reduces fatigue and tension (particularly effective in a blend with lavender essential oil);
purifies and improves indoor air.

Usage

The use of bergamot essential oil with bergaptene increases the skin's sensitivity to UV rays due to the presence of the coumarins bergamottin and bergaptene, and should be avoided for at least 12 hours after applying bergamot oil. For this reason, it is preferable to use bergamot essential oil without bergaptene in massage and cosmetic blends, although the scent is obviously not as rich as pure bergamot oil.

In Perfumery. Bergamot essential oil is used in many perfumes as a natural stabiliser and top note enhancer. It combines well with cypress, jasmine, juniper, neroli, lemongrass and all citrus.
