In the autumn, when the fragrant witch hazel blooms in the Grass area, leaves and young shoots are collected, dried and then steam-distilled to obtain a very valuable witch hazel hydrate. To get our witch hazel water, 60 g of dry witch hazel raw material is added to 1 liter of water.
Flexible witch hazel twigs have long been used as a scourge (virgula divina) for searching water, oil or gems.
In English name witch hazel, the etymology of the word witch is interpreted from the word wiche, which is derived from Old English. The word wiche, means flexible or easily folded.
Witch hazel hydrolate is very delicate. It barely smells of fresh grass, unriped nuts, light spring greenery ... It tightens the mucous membranes and a little bitterness in the mouth. Witch hazel hydrolate is widely used commercially in cosmetics, skin care and medicine. The only disadvantage of this hydrolate is that witch hazel water is not long lasting. Properly stored, the hydrolate is suitable for use from 8 to 12 months. For this reason, witch hazel water is preserved by adding 15% to 30% ethyl alcohol to the hydrolate. If your skin is very dry, it may start to dry out over time.

Witch Hazel water is considered to be one of the most potent antioxidants among the hydrolates known and used today. Together with Cistus ladaniferus, they are in the forefront as anti-ageing tonics.

In cosmetics, Witch Hazel hydrolat:

  • astringent, cleansing and toning, especially suitable for sensitive, mature, acne-prone and oily skin,
  • soothes and reduces sensitivity,
  • activates microcirculation and firms,
  • brightens the complexion and tightens pores,
  • eliminates odour.
  • for face (not suitable for dry skin). Wash your face with Witch Hazel hydrolat in the evenings to remove the day's dust (and ultra-gentle unrefined argan oil is best for removing make-up). Wake up and refresh your face, neck and chest in the morning. Regularly washing and spritzing with Witch Hazel hydrolat reduces redness, rashes, sensitivity, swelling and puffiness. Also effective in combination with Yarrow Hydrolate.
  • for damaged skin. Very soothing for bites, particularly synergistic with chamomile hydrolat or essential oil.
  • for hands. We suggest making: a Witch Hazel and honey hand mask (French women have been making this mask for ages):

                    – 2 tsp. Honey
                    – 2 tsp Witch Hazel hydrosol
                    – 4 drops of lavender, ylang ylang or distilled lemon essential oil

Mix all ingredients together. Massage this cream lightly on your hands. Leave on for 20 to 30 minutes, then wash off with warm water (without soap).

Vienas mano mėgiamiausių, puikus kvapas tiek kūnui tiek sielai

Kiek bijojau sudėtyje esančio spirito, bet nesigailiu nusipirkus :) Turiu mišrią/porėtą odą. Nesausino, spirito kvapas labai greit dingo. Neutralus kvapas, gerai nuima paraudimus. Labai nustebino, kad jis tikrai šiek tiek sutraukia poras!
